Frequently Asked Questions

  • According to the American College of Nurse-Midwives, "Research has shown that for low-risk women, appropriately selected and attended planned home births result in outcomes that are as good as, or better than, outcomes for similarly low-risk women who give birth in hospitals."

Homebirth is a natural and empowering option for people who desire a more relaxed and intimate birthing experience. It allows them to have control over their birthing process, and provides personalized care and attention from a trained midwife in the comfort of their own home during labor and birth. It provides the freedom to move around, eat, drink, and do what is comfortable to them without the restrictions that come with a hospital birth. We encourage our clients to have supportive people and family members there during labor and highly recommend a trained doula. Homebirth provides a more relaxed, intuitive environment that can lead to better outcomes for both mother and baby.

Homebirth is a beautiful and empowering option that promotes a sense of control and ownership over the birthing process, while providing a safe and nurturing environment for mother and baby.

  • "A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is a primary healthcare provider to women of all ages throughout their lives. The CNM specializes in pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. CNMs also provide primary care services to women, including gynecological exams, family planning services, and menopausal care. CNMs attend births in hospitals, birth centers, and homes and practice in collaboration with physicians or other healthcare professionals when consultation, collaboration, or referral is needed. CNMs are licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). CNMs have graduate education in midwifery and are recognized as independent healthcare providers in many states." - American College of Nurse-Midwives

Homebirth CNMs take the time to get to know their clients and build a trusting relationship with them. They work closely with each client to develop a comprehensive and individualized care plan that takes into account their medical history, personal preferences, and cultural background. During labor and delivery, homebirth CNMs offer continuous support, including monitoring vital signs, managing pain in a holistic way, and providing emotional and practical guidance. After the birth, they continue to offer postpartum care and support, helping women navigate the challenges of the early days and weeks of motherhood and throughout their lifetimes.

  • Waterbirth is having your baby in a tub or pool of warm water. There are many benefits to water during labor and birth including:

-Pain relief: The warmth and buoyancy of the water can help to reduce pain and promote relaxation during labor.

-Reduced stress: Many women find that being in the water can create a calming and soothing environment that helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

-Increased mobility: Being in the water can make it easier for women to move around and find comfortable positions during labor.

-Improved circulation: The warmth of the water can help to increase circulation, which may help to reduce swelling and promote healing.

-Easier delivery: Some women find that delivering their baby in the water can be easier and less stressful than a traditional delivery.

  • We understand that unexpected emergencies can arise during a homebirth, and it's important to have a plan in place to ensure the safety of both the client and the baby. During prenatal care, we will work with clients to create a personalized birth plan that includes an emergency plan in case of unexpected complications.

We will have the necessary equipment and supplies on hand to manage most emergencies. We are trained and have experience in neonatal resuscitation and emergencies, and I carry equipment such as oxygen, resuscitation devices, and medications to manage emergency situations.

In some cases, a transfer to a hospital may be necessary to ensure the safety of both the client and the baby.

It's worth noting that emergency situations during a homebirth are rare, and most homebirths proceed smoothly without complications. However, our priority is always the health and safety of our clients and their babies, and we take every precaution necessary to ensure a safe and positive birthing experience.
